Mayacamas Vineyards sits high on Mount Veeder, where cool elevation shapes Cabernet Sauvignon with restraint and structure. This 2019 is a measured, elegant expression, moving away from the riper power of the preceding vintages and returning to a more refined aesthetic.
The wine opens with aromatic complexity: cassis, violets, spring flowers, and graphite on the nose, with mineral undertones throughout. On the palate it's silky and beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied but disciplined, with fine-grained tannins and a crisp, somewhat lean character that feels grounded and mineral-driven rather than fruit-forward. Notes of blood orange, crushed raspberry, mint, and exotic spice weave through the finish, which lingers long and dusty. This is a wine built to age, with the depth and structure to develop gracefully over decades.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon marks a return to a more elegant, polished style following the two powerhouses that are the 2017 and 2018. Silky, aromatic and beautifully perfumed, the 2019 is majestic from the very first taste. There is plenty of depth and structure, as well as the balance to support decades of very fine drinking. Blood orange, crushed raspberry, mint and exotic spice nuances linger. Even in the early going, the 2019 is shaping up to be majestic. (Vinous, January 2022)
Moving to the current releases, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly on another level. Cassis, violets, spring flowers, and graphite, as well as a beautiful sense of minerality, all emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, fine, polished tannins, fabulous balance, and a great finish. This stunning bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon will drink nicely over the coming 30 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck, December 2023)
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon remains true to the winery's historic style, offering complex notes of dried herbs and mixed berries, carried across the palate by a wine that's medium-bodied, crisp and somewhat lean by modern Napa standards. It finishes long and dusty, promising well for the future.
