Chardonnay from the Mâconnais at the southern end of Burgundy, where the grape tends to show more sun and roundness than its cooler northern cousins. This Saint-Véran comes from Meurgey-Croses, drawing on organically farmed vines of about 35 years planted between Prissé and Davayé. The 2023 saw most of the wine raised in tank, with roughly a third going into new oak barrels of two sizes, a light touch meant to add texture without dominating.
The nose opens on orchard fruit and orange blossom, with a whisper of wild mint that surfaces as the wine sits in the glass. It is nicely balanced on the palate, carried by a fine thread of acidity, and the oak leaves a discreet creamy note toward the finish that softens the edges and broadens its appeal. Drinking well now and over the next several years.
