Fermentation with native yeasts rather than commercial strains is the idea behind this bottling from Miner Family Winery, a Chardonnay grown in Napa Valley. The 2021 comes in at 14.1% alcohol, and it leans toward the subtle, complex end of the California Chardonnay spectrum, more restrained on the palate than sheer weight might suggest.
The nose opens on toasted grain, gentle citrus, and ripe melon, with honeyed pineapple, caramelized citrus peel, white flowers, and a touch of spicy oak filling in behind. Medium to full in body, it carries a round, layered mouthfeel and real richness without turning heavy, then closes long and vibrant. There is a lot to like here, and it should show well over the next few years.

The 2021 Chardonnay Wild Yeast aromas evoke toasted grain, mild citrus and ripe melon on the nose. It's more subtle and complex than the 2022 Napa Valley bottling, appearing less weighty on the palate, despite having the same reported alcohol level (14.1%). A long, vibrant finish caps things off nicely. (Wine Advocate, December 2023)
The 2021 Chardonnay Wild Yeast brings more richness and depth. Honeyed pineapple, caramelized citrus, white flowers, and spicy wood notes all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a round, layered mouthfeel and outstanding length on the palate. This big, rich, nicely textured Chardonnay has lots to love. Drink bottles over the coming 3-4 years. (Jeb Dunnuck, December 2023)
