Riesling from the Mosel's Ürziger Würzgarten sits in the lower-alcohol, delicately sweet register that has made the region's Kabinett wines a category unto themselves, and this bottling from Markus Molitor carries the Gold Capsule marking the house uses to signal richer, riper fruit within the Kabinett tier. It is a 2023, grown on the steep slopes above the river, and it comes in at a featherweight 8.5% alcohol.
The nose is precise and aromatic, crushed slate laced with concentrated orchard and berry fruit and a whisper of herbs. On the palate there is a bit of unfermented grape sweetness up front, dried strawberry and red apple reading as gently off-dry, but a serious line of acidity moves in quickly to scrub the finish clean and leave it saline and refreshing. The 2023 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Green Capsule) is precise, detailed and aromatic on the clear and very elegant nose that pairs crushed slate with concentrated fruit aromas and herbal notes. Round and crystalline on the palate, this is a highly elegant, mouth-filling and persistently saline Kabinett with serious terroir expression and crunchy grip. It's very promising and a highlight of the Kabinett category at Markus Molitor. 8.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026 (AP 26 24). (Wine Advocate, February 2026)
The dried-strawberry and red-apple character is married to a crisp acidity and enough unfermented grape sweetness to make this riesling Kabinett frankly off-dry on the front palate. However, it also has a serious acidity that rapidly cleans up the finish, making it extremely refreshing. Good aging potential, in spite of the light body. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
