A white blend from the Brda hills of Slovenia, where the border with Italy's Friuli runs close and Ribolla Gialla has long roots, this is Movia's Veliko Belo (the name translates roughly to "big white"). The 2021 leans on Ribolla Gialla for the bulk of the blend (70%), rounded out with Pinot Gris (20%) and a touch of Sauvignon Blanc (10%). It is a wine built for texture as much as fruit.
Expect a smoky, savory edge here, dried herbs and stone dust wrapped around citrus-lifted nectarine and a flicker of gingery spice. It plays salty against sweet over a silken body, with brisk acidity and a crisp mineral thread pulling against a ripe core of orchard fruit. Floral notes drift through the middle, and the finish stretches long and contrasting, candied lime meeting tart green apple. This is Movia showing what it can do.
