Description
A classic Rioja Alta red built on Tempranillo, with Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano filling out the blend, this is Muga's unfiltered Reserva from the 2022 vintage. The wine spent 24 months in casks made in the winery's own cooperage, four-fifths French oak and the rest American, a combination that shapes its aromatics as much as its texture. Skipping filtration keeps more of the wine's substance intact in the glass.
The oak reads as cedar, sandalwood and quiet spice, a fine frame around red and black fruit touched with a balsamic edge. It drinks dry and juicy, with tannins that are fine but reactive, tightening the structure into something slightly compact for now. Fruit and a gentle grip carry through a persistent finish.
