Neyers Ranch's AME Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a steep, rocky parcel in Conn Valley within Napa Valley, where volcanic and basalt soils shape the character of the fruit. The 2019 vintage shows the restrained hand of winemaker Tadeo Borchardt, who has crafted a wine built for patience and time.
This is a full-bodied Cabernet with real elegance. Dark inky fruit, blackberry and black cherry, carries whispers of cedar spice, liquorice, and espresso bean undertones, while wildflower florality adds lift and complexity. The structure is where the wine reveals itself: building tannins frame layers of spice (cardamom, sage, white pepper, mint) and keep the dark fruit vertical and tensile. Bright acidity threads throughout, making the wine feel seamless despite its weight. This is serious stuff, meant for the cellar and for patience.

From a 243-metre high rocky parcel on the Neyers Ranch estate vineyard in Conn Valley, on a 45-degree slope with vines rooted in volcanic and basalt soils. A beautifully reserved wine with whispers of delicate cedar spices, inky dark fruit, liquorice, wildflowers, and a hint of dark roasted espresso beans. Satiny blackberry and black cherry notes are supported by building tannins that lift the sweet dark fruit onto vertical tapestries of spices—cardamom and sage, white pepper and mint—framed by bright and lifted natural acidity, makes for a full-bodied, elegant and Seamless Cabernet built for the long haul. Proprietors Bruce and Barbara Neyers work with winemaker Tadeo Borchardt.
Blackberries, black cherries, bitter chocolate and dried herbs on the nose. Firm and chewy with a full body and savory, fleshy layers. Nicely focused, with a lengthy finish. Drink after 2024. (James Suckling)
