Nicolas-Jay Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willamette Valley in 2016 captures the ripe character of a warmer vintage while maintaining the region's signature restraint. The wine shows aromas of pine cone, hazelnut, and dried mushroom, moving into flavors of black cherry and salted watermelon rind, with layers of red flowers, graphite, and spice building complexity as it opens.
The palate strikes a pleasing balance between plump, dark cherry fruit and a subtle, sinewy grip. You'll find brambly raspberry notes alongside bitter cherry and black raspberry, with floral and spicecake dimensions adding depth. The wine has good concentration and satiny fruit at its core, backed by soft, grainy tannins and a snap of juicy acidity that carries through to a long, penetrating finish. Approachable now, with enough structure to reward a few years in the cellar.

This is ripe but restrained for what was a warmer vintage in the Willamette. Aromas of pine cone, hazelnut and dried mushroom are followed by flavours of black cherry and salted watermelon rind. There's a pleasing tension across the 2016 Nicolas-Jay lineup, gliding back and forth between plump, svelte fruit flavours and a subtle, sinewy grip. 2,400 cases produced.
Really lovely cherries and brambly raspberries, graphite and red flowers on the nose, leading to a rich and dark, deep, plush and spicy palate that has a very pure core of satiny, silky fruit flavor. Drink now.
Brilliant red. Highly perfumed, spice-accented aromas of dark berries and cherry pit, with violet, musky rhubarb and woodsmoke flourishes building in the glass. Offers bitter cherry, black raspberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that show very good concentration. A snap of juicy acidity provides back-end lift. The cherry and floral notes build steadily through a very long, penetrating finish that's supported by chewy, slow-mounting tannins. (33% new French oak)
