Niepoort's 2009 Colheita is a tawny Port from the Douro region, bottled in the half-bottle format. Colheita Ports are single-vintage tawnies, aged in wood for a minimum of seven years before release. This one spent time in barrel to develop its character before being sealed in glass.
Tawny Port in this style tends toward dried fruit, caramel, and walnut, with the kind of silky texture that comes from extended wood aging. The 2009 vintage is mature enough to drink now, though these wines are built to age gracefully in the cellar if you prefer to hold it.
