Expert Reviews
A restrained wine with an austere nose of cinnamon, wild strawberries, peonies and earth. Medium- to full-bodied, it shows concentration, bright fruitiness and tension, with chewy tannins and long, lifted acidity. Drink or hold. (James Suckling, November 2025)
Closed with a red wax capsule, the Arianna Occhipinti 2021 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico Grotte Alte is the traditional blend of 50% Frappato di Vittoria and 50% Nero d’Avola, made with organically farmed fruit. It has a clean bouquet of candied cherry, crème de cassis and crushed rose. Lean- to medium-bodied, the wine closes with black licorice and toasted fennel seed. The fruit comes from Contrada Santa Teresa at 280 meters in elevation, where red sand sits over compact limestone. The wine undergoes 21 days of skin maceration with 20% whole clusters and ages for 48 months in French oak. Production is limited to 6,600 bottles. (Wine Advocate, September 2026)
