Othello is a Bordeaux blend from Dominus Estate in Napa Valley, made from the 2021 vintage. This is a wine that has been produced since 2005, though its release to the US market is new. The blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) with supporting roles from Cabernet Franc (9%) and Petit Verdot (6%), aged primarily in previously-used French oak to preserve freshness and allow the fruit to lead.
The wine opens with raspberry and cherry fruit, undercut by soft, dusty earth notes that add complexity without overwhelming. Medium to full in body, it carries itself with graceful restraint, the tannins are supple rather than aggressive, and the texture flows silky across the palate. This is a wine built for balance and nuance rather than concentration; it finishes gently, with lingering hints of mocha and savory herbs. It's approachable now and will reward a few years in the cellar.

Produced largely from the vines at the very front of the property, where there are higher proportions of clay and silt, the 2021 Othello Red Wine marks the first time this wine has been released to the US market (it has been made since 2005, first for the Japanese market, then sold into Canada as well). There are 1,000 cases of this wine, which is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot that saw just 20% new French oak, with the balance being second or third-use. Aromas include raspberry and cherry fruit, with some softly dusty earth tones. Medium to full-bodied, the wine exhibits fairly soft tannins and a silky mouthfeel, not that rich or concentrated but balanced and gently savory on the lingering, mocha-tinged finish.
