Description

Bussia is one of the celebrated crus of the Barolo zone in Piedmont, and this bottling from Parusso is Nebbiolo grown there, from the 2021 vintage. The house has a recognizable approach, a slightly stemmy, astringent edge that sets its wines apart from the softer end of the appellation. This is a traditionally structured Barolo built for the cellar, though it reads as a touch more approachable in its youth than others in the range.

Dark fruit arrives first and makes a forceful opening, cushioned by tea leaf, tobacco, new leather, licorice and a streak of mocha. Rose, crushed flowers and a rusty mineral note lend real complexity, and there is a faint bitterness that comes with the more astringent profile. The tannins are insistent, so give it time to unwind. Nebbiolo from Barolo tends to age gracefully, and this dense, potent young wine is made to reward patience.

Wine Advocate

The Parusso 2021 Barolo Bussia is a little more immediate compared to the other wines in this portfolio, but you do get that abrupt stemmy quality that is characteristic of the house style. Dark fruit is padded by tea leaf and tobacco, and there is a hint of bitterness that comes with that more astringent flavor profile. it should soften with time. The wine offers plenty of complexity with rose, crushed flower and rusty mineral. Parusso's wines are always a world apart. (Wine Advocate, June 2025)

The 2021 Barolo Bussia is a dense, potent wine. A blast of dark fruit makes a strong opening statement. New leather, licorice, mocha and dried flowers are all seamless in the glass. This virile young Barolo needs considerable time, as the tannins underneath all of that fruit are pretty insistent. Historically, the Parusso Barolos have aged quite well. I expect that to be the case here. (Vinous)
