Nebbiolo grown in the Mariondino cru gives Parusso a wine that leans toward aromatic lift, and this 2021 bottling from the Barolo zone in Piedmont is no exception. It is a single-vineyard expression, worked with some whole-cluster character and time in oak, and it carries the firm structure that Barolo is built on.
The nose opens with a stemmy edge that reads like steeped tea and bramble, framed by dried herbs, cedar, tobacco, pine, and a lift of dried flowers, with sweet spice from the wood. There is a touch of astringency, but the wine is generous and energetic all the same, dense in the middle with a deep core of dark fruit and brooding tannins that call for patience. This is one built on structure and length, and it rewards attention.
In the bottle with the orange label, the Parusso 2021 Barolo Mariondino shows a hint of astringency and stemminess on the bouquet that recalls steeped tea and bramble. However, this wine is also incredibly open and generous, full of energy and balance. The Parusso palate demands attention to structure and longevity with dark fruit concentration. (Wine Advocate, June 2025)
The 2021 Barolo Mariondino is a heady, intense wine. Dried herbs, cedar, spice, tobacco, pine and dried flowers are all dialed up, with strong overtones from the stems and sweet spice from the oak. The Mariondino is often the most aromatic of the Parusso Barolos, but in 2021, the wine is very dense, with a huge core of fruit and brooding tannins to match. (Vinous)
