Description

Mosconi sits in a natural amphitheater in Barolo, a bowl that gathers and holds the sun's warmth, and that ripeness comes through in this bottling from the Parusso family. Made from Nebbiolo in a modernist style, the 2018 is a big, structured wine, generous in alcohol (15%) and framed by oak that it has the depth to carry.

Expect a firm, powerful bouquet: dried cherry and ripe blackcurrant, cola and steeped tea, persimmon, dried herbs, leather, and a note of mocha. The palate is broad and potent, brooding and intense, with big, brawny tannins that will soften with time. There's an earthy, balsamic turn toward the finish, but the black fruit stays pure and fresh acidity keeps it lifted and balanced.

Wine Advocate

The Parusso 2018 Barolo Mosconi shows that distinctively stemmy element that I always associate with these wines so carefully made by Marco Parusso and his family. The bouquet is firm and powerful with dried cherry, steeped Darjeeling tea and persimmon. The wine is extra solid, both in terms of structure and tannins, and it follows up with an ample 15% alcohol content. (Wine Advocate, June 2022)

Mosconi is a natural amphitheatre which harbours the sun's warmth. A deep nose of ripe blackcurrant fruit and cola laced with herbal notes introduces a vibrant and fine-grained palate of beautiful balance. It gets pretty earthy towards the finish (in a good way), but retains that purity of black fruits and cola, along with a balsamic element and persistent, fresh acidity which carries it. Parusso's modernist style is beautifully realised here. (Decanter, May 2023)

Vinous

The 2018 Barolo Mosconi is a broad, potent wine. A blast of macerated dark cherry, leather, spice, dried herbs, chocolate and mocha makes a strong opening statement. As always, the Mosconi is a brooding, virile wine with huge depth, tons of intensity and big, brawny tannins that need time to soften. There is a good deal of oak, but the wine has the presence and overall intensity to carry it well. (Vinous, February 2022)
