Description

PlumpJack Estate's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Oakville, in the heart of Napa Valley's Cabernet country. The wine blends Cabernet with dollops of Petit Verdot and Malbec, a structure designed to age. At this early stage, it is clearly a bottle meant for the cellar, not the immediate dinner table.

The 2021 shows the muscular character of young Oakville Cabernet: dark red and purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol, new leather, and licorice notes build a complex, racy profile. Silky and deep in the mouth, with mocha and black cherry layered beneath brown sugar sweetness, the wine has ample concentration and a velvety texture. It is full-bodied and tightly wound now, lacking the polish it will develop with time in bottle, but the potential is evident in its depth and resonance.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is rich, racy and super-expressive. Silky and deep, with notable resonance, the 2021 offers up dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol, new leather and licorice. Today, it is a very young wine in need of cellaring, but its potential is evident. Dollops of Petit Verdot and Malbec round out the blend. This should be positively stellar.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reflects much of the property's 35 producing acres of Cabernet on the eastern side of the Oakville AVA. Tasted under screw cap (the winery offers both cork and screw-cap closures), the wine offers up notes of mocha, black cherries and brown sugar. It's full-bodied, with a slightly coarse but velvety texture, showing ample concentration but not much elegance at this young age.
