Brunello di Montalcino is Sangiovese in its most serious register, grown in a hilltop corner of southern Tuscany where the grape ripens fully and demands extended aging before release. This 2019 comes from Ridolfi, and it shows the varietal's classic tension between generous fruit and firm structure.
Expect a rich, darkly floral nose, notes of violet and dark chocolate opening onto crushed blackberry. On the palate it turns soft and enveloping, with tart red berry fruit that saturates as fine-grained tannins build toward the finish. It closes long and structured, staining the palate, with licorice and a trace of cedar lingering.
