Brunello di Montalcino is Sangiovese grown in a warm corner of southern Tuscany and held to a long aging regime before release, and Ridolfi's 2020 arrives in a decidedly youthful register. This is a wine still finding its full stride, medium- to full-bodied, built around firm structure rather than early softness, and worth meeting on those terms.
The nose leans red and floral, bright cherries and crushed plums lifted by violets, roses, and a cooling thread of lavender and mint. Fresh acidity gives it energy and drive, while the tannins are firm and well-defined, gripping through a finish marked by cherry stone, dusty earth, and a mineral, almost stony sensation. There are savory edges too, dried herbs and a flicker of spice, and the whole thing stays classically dry. Give it time in the glass, or a few years in the cellar, to let that youthful firmness settle.

Youthful style to this Brunello, with bright red cherries, roses if not rose water, fresh violets and integrated cherry stones. Firm tannins and crisp acidity on the medium- to full-bodied palate with a youthful yet good grip on the finish. Drink from 2026. (James Suckling)
Crushed plums and cherries are lifted by hints of lavender and mint as the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is silky smooth with ripe wild berry fruits elevated by sweet lavender as a sensation of liquid stone sets in toward the close. It tapers off with medium length, classically dry and youthfully firm, leaving blue and purple inner florals on the finish. (Vinous)
The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino has a youthful red color and is forward and potent in the glass, opening with notes of medicinal herbs, cayenne, dried cherries, and orange peel. Medium to full-bodied, the palate takes on very nice energy, with a refreshing spine of acidity, well-defined tannins, a crunchy feel, and notes of dusty earth on the finish. It' a solid, straightforward Brunello to enjoy over the next several years. (Jeb Dunnuck, January 2025)
