Description

Nebbiolo grown in the Rizzi cru of Barbaresco, in the hills of Piedmont, shows here in a restrained, translucent style. This is the 2022 vintage from the Rizzi estate, a wine that leans toward finesse rather than muscle, medium-bodied and built around Nebbiolo's characteristic firm tannins and bright acidity.

The nose is focused and lifted, with wild strawberry and watermelon alongside yellow stone fruit, sweet spice, fresh flowers, and a note of dried earth. It moves in a linear line across the palate, ripe fruit at the core, tannins that stay ripe through the mid and turn firmer on the finish, with a light warming lift at the close and good length. Drinkable now, though a little time in the cellar will let it show its best.

Restrained in style, with aromas of watermelon, yellow stone fruit and a touch of pepper. Light- to medium-bodied, it shows ripe tannins and refreshing acidity with good length. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. (James Suckling)

Pouring a translucent red color, the 2022 Barbaresco Rizzi offers a nice mix of ripeness and yet stays focused on the nose with aromas of wild strawberries, sweet spices, fresh flowers, and dried earth. It’s linear and medium-bodied, with a core of ripe tannins, concentrated ripe fruit, and a light warming finish. Its tannins are firmer on the finish, and this vintage is going to be at its best over the next 5-7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025)
