S.C. Pannell's Baso is a Grenache from McLaren Vale's Blewitt Springs, a dry-grown site in South Australia's most celebrated red wine region. The 2022 vintage arrives as a still red wine, hand-harvested and bottled at 14.5% alcohol under screw cap.
This is a wine built on structure and mineral spine. Ferrous and floral aromatics give way to a palate dominated by graphite tannin, silty in texture and layered with exotic spice, sumac, pomegranate, and sweet paprika moving through the glass. What makes it sing is the tension between those substantial tannins and an underlying freshness that keeps the wine alive and energetic rather than heavy. The fruit speaks with clarity, a testament to the vineyard's dry farming and the winemaker's restraint in the cellar.

The 2022 Basso Grenache is ferrous and floral, and the palate follows with loads of graphite tannin. This is silty and exotically spiced, with a cavalcade of sumac, pomegranate and paprika dolce. It's a gorgeous wine. The fruit here was handpicked from a dry-grown vineyard in Blewitt Springs, and it is sensational. Tannins are the calling card of Steve Pannell's Grenaches and are undoubtedly what makes the wines great. That and the inherent freshness the wines. Bottled with 30 parts total sulfur, 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
