In the hills of Montalcino, Sangiovese takes on a darker, more structured character than it shows elsewhere in Tuscany, and it must age at length before release as Brunello. This is the 2021 from Sassetti Livio Pertimali, a still, dry expression of that tradition, built for the cellar as much as the table.
Black cherries and plums arrive with a balsamic edge, threaded with minty herbs and a whiff of forest undergrowth. There is an inner sweetness here, and a deep mineral streak, carried on textures that turn silken across the palate. The tannins have an edge to them, firm but never obstructive, and the finish stretches out with real length and force, trailing licorice and a spiced citrus lift.
