Description

Sourced from Dollarhide, an estate vineyard whose roots trace back to a ranch established in the 1840s, this is a single-site Cabernet Sauvignon from St. Supéry in Napa Valley. The 2019 vintage speaks to the varietal's structured, dark-fruited register, drawn from a property the producer farms as its own.

The nose opens on dark chocolate and black plum, threaded with a warm Christmas-spice character and a hint of graphite. The palate follows through with unctuous black fruit, spiced plum, blackberry, and cassis, deepened by mocha, espresso bean, and a wisp of smoke and ember. What keeps it from feeling heavy is the acidity, which lifts the finish and carries a long, lingering note of dark chocolate. Full-bodied but clean, with the freshness to stay balanced.

The Dollarhide Vineyard, a St Supéry estate site, has old origins as a ranch dating to the 1840s. A melange of dark chocolate and black plums mark the aromatics with notes of Christmas spice. The palate is lush, with unctuous black fruits, spiced plums, blackberries, and black currant. There are definitive notes of mocha, espresso bean, a touch of ember, and smoky spice, but the acidity lifts the finish nicely and provides a balance and a lengthy dark chocolate note that lasts a long time. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Dollarhide Estate Vineyard is outstanding, with a blue-fruited, plum, graphite, and bouquet garni-like array on the nose as well as a medium to full-bodied style on the palate. It has good freshness, a clean, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck, May 2022)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Dollarhide Estate Vineyard is a simple, approachable, easy-drinking effort. Given the competition within Napa Valley, that's not good enough. Cherry fruit is joined by vaguely herbal, slightly leafy notes on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, with an open-knit, grainy feel that turns more velvety on the finish.
