Description

A Cabernet-led Napa Valley blend built for richness, this 2022 from St. Supéry leans on estate fruit drawn from their Dollarhide vineyard in Napa's northeastern hills and their Rutherford holdings. Cabernet Sauvignon carries the wine, rounded out with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and a touch of Malbec, and it was aged around nineteen months in French oak, most of it new. Michael Scholz makes it in a full-bodied but approachable style that drinks well young and has the frame to hold.

The nose is generous and dark: cassis and sweet blueberry, violets, sweet tobacco, and a lift of spice. On the palate it's rich and layered, with a chocolaty depth typical of Rutherford Cabernet and tannins that are ripe and polished rather than gripping. Notes of fig, mocha, and cedar give way to a long finish carrying tart black cherry, more tobacco, sage, and a stony edge. Opulent but food-friendly, it's the kind of bottle that flatters brisket or a good burger.

A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot, sourced from St. Supéry’s 202-hectare Dollarhide Estate Vineyard in Napa’s northeastern hills and their Rutherford Estate Vineyard. Crafted by winemaker Michael Scholz, this is an easy-drinking 2022 with sweet black currant, fig, mocha, tobacco, and sweet cedar. Gentle tannins glide effortlessly over the palate, leading to a finish of tart black cherry, more tobacco, sage, and wet stone minerality. A versatile, food-friendly wine, best enjoyed alongside brisket or burgers. (Decanter, February 2025)
