Description
Oakville sits in the heart of Napa Valley, and its Cabernet Sauvignon tends to carry real weight and depth of fruit. This 2018 estate bottling from Tamber Bey leans on that reputation while pulling in a different direction stylistically, a Cabernet built as a bridge between richer new-school Napa and a more restrained, old-world sensibility. It is largely Cabernet Sauvignon, rounded out with Petit Verdot and smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
The nose is savory and meaty, unusual in the best way, with dark blue and black fruit underneath and a faint herbal edge. There is richness here, the kind Oakville is known for, but it is held in check rather than pushed forward. Medium to full-bodied, with silky, fine-grained tannins and a long finish, it reads as balanced and textured. This one drinks well now and should hold its shape for years to come.

A unique, meaty and savoury profile on the nose. The richness of Oakville is present, but in an admirably restrained manner, and the tannins are fine-grained and harmonious. A Cabernet styled for the midpoint because new-school Napa and old-world influence. (Decanter, October 2020)
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Vermejo (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Malbec) is another darker fruited, slightly herbal effort that has beautiful dark blue and black fruits, medium to full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a great finish.
