Description

Cabernet Franc rarely gets to stand entirely on its own in Tuscany, but here it does, bottled as a single-varietal Toscana IGT from a small, stony parcel at Tenuta di Trinoro. The 2022 Campo di Camagi comes from shallow soils laced with quartz and limestone, where the vines have to work to reach water, and that struggle shows up as concentration in the glass. This is a big, deeply extracted wine, generous in ripeness and carrying a substantial 15.5% alcohol, with only 960 bottles made.

The aromatics run toward the exotic: blood orange and pomegranate, cinnamon and baking spice, dried herbs and a lift of rose petal, with plum and orange peel underneath and a flicker of lemongrass. On the palate it spreads wide rather than tall, wrapping thickly over the tongue with baked plum and blackberry preserves, yet it holds onto a surprising translucence and energy for something this concentrated. Fine, crisp tannins and a tangy, citrus-edged finish keep it bright. Give it a year or two to knit together.

The 2022 Campo di Camagi offers up an exotic mélange of blood orange, pomegranate, cinnamon, dried herbs and rose petal. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2022 retains gorgeous translucence and energy. I would give this a year or two to come together. (Vinous)

Very attractive plum and orange peel aromas with just a hint of lemongrass, following through to a medium body with fine, crisp tannins and a tangy and bright finish. The lemon character at the end gives this lift and crispiness. Cabernet franc. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

Wine Advocate

This wine walks with a heavy footprint and broad shoulders. The Tenuta di Trinoro 2022 Campo di Camagi is a big wine with the proverbial capital "B." Made with 100% Cabernet Franc, the grapes come from a 1.5-hectare parcel of shallow, stony soils with quartz and limestone. The roots struggle to make their way to underground water reserves, and the wine is extra dark, extracted and powerful as a result (with a pounding 15.5% alcohol content). It carries its generous fruit weight with broad horizontal intensity instead of vertical power, and it wraps thickly over the palate with baked plum, blackberry preserves and baking spice over an inky dark appearance. Only 960 bottles exist. (Wine Advocate, February 2025)
