Description
Varietal purity is the point here: a single-vineyard Cabernet Franc bottled on its own, grown high in Tuscany at around 500 meters on deep soils of sand, stones and fractured limestone. Tenuta di Trinoro releases it under the Toscana IGT designation as one of its site-specific expressions, and this 2023 comes from a small parcel that yielded fewer than 2,000 bottles. Full-bodied but built for precision rather than sheer weight.
The character runs dark and brooding. Black fruit sits at the center, wrapped in spice, leather, clove, espresso and licorice, with a fine mineral thread that lifts the whole thing above its inky concentration. It builds steadily through the mid-palate and carries into the finish, structure framing the fruit instead of smothering it. Focused, balanced, and a little exotic in its somber way.

The Tenuta di Trinoro 2023 Campo di Tenaglia is a 100% Cabernet Franc sourced from a site with deep soils of sand, stones and fractured limestone at 500 meters in elevation. This is a lovely wine—and the most compelling of the three single-vineyard expressions released this year in my opinion—thanks to a finely etched mineral note that rises above black fruit, spice and the wine’s inky concentration. Full-bodied yet precise, it shows excellent focus and balance, with structure that frames rather than overwhelms the fruit. This small release totals 1,946 bottles. (Wine Advocate, February 2026)
The 2023 Campo di Tenaglia is another super-intriguing, exotic Franc from Tenuta di Trinoro. Dark-toned fruit, leather, cloves, espresso and licorice give the Tenaglia its distinctly brooding, somber personality. This builds impressively through the mid-palate and into the finish. The Tenaglia is once again very special. It emerges from 0.8-hectare parcel at 1,700 feet in elevation planted on crumbled limestone and clay. (Vinous, April 2026)
