Varietal Merlot rarely gets the high-altitude treatment it does here, in the remote Sarteano hills of southern Tuscany, where Tenuta di Trinoro farms the parcels behind this bottling. Palazzi is 100% Merlot bottled as a Toscana IGT, and the 2023 is a small production, just over 2,800 bottles plus larger formats. Elevation is the story: it lends the grape a lift and definition that reads differently from Merlot grown on warmer, lower ground.
This is a wine of scale that still knows how to move. Rich and savory in profile, it carries real volume across the palate but does so with poise, layering deep texture over solid structure. Blackberry and sweet blackcurrant sit alongside baking spice, with darker shadings of chocolate, licorice, espresso and new leather. The 2023 shows soft and racy from the start, an unusually approachable expression that rewards drinking now or after minimal cellaring.

The 2023 Palazzi, 100% Merlot from hillside parcels, is soft and racy right out of the gate. Succulent, dark-toned fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice and espresso are front and center.
