Description
A Bordeaux-variety blend grown in southern Tuscany, this Toscana IGT from Tenuta di Trinoro draws on high-elevation hillside vineyards and a low-yield approach that concentrates everything in the glass. The 2022 leans on Merlot and Cabernet Franc in equal measure (44% each), rounded out by small portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, making it the first vintage since 2015 to include all four of the estate's red grapes. It carries 15% alcohol and the firm, decisively etched tannic frame that marks the season.

The 2022 Tenuta di Trinoro is a heady, opulent wine. Inky dark fruit, new leather, incense, licorice, espresso, bittersweet chocolate and cloves all stain the palate. Unctuous and flamboyant to the core, the 2022 is a total stunner. It can be enjoyed young, as the tannins are rather soft, but I would prefer to give it a few years in bottle to allow some of the baby fat to melt away. This is the first vintage since 2015 that includes all four red varieties on the estate: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. (Vinous)

The wine shows a decisively etched profile, and while additional bottle age will help integrate the tannins, that firmness is likely to remain an enduring signature of the season. Planted on high-elevation hillside vineyards in southern Tuscany, the estate’s low-yield philosophy amplifies concentration and intensity.
