Tenuta Sette Ponti's Crognolo is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Merlot from the Valdarno valley, aged 14 months in small oak barrels. The vineyard work draws from vines planted in 1935, giving the wine deep roots and consistency from vintage to vintage.
The 2020 opens with an intense burst of currant and spice, followed by fresh acidity and ripe cherry. You'll find crushed red berry, mint, licorice, dried flowers, and a hint of sweet pipe tobacco running through the mid-weight frame. The wine is well balanced, with herbal and spice notes lingering on the finish. This is a wine ready to drink now and will hold well for the next several years.

Oreno's second wine is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot – clones of vines from the estate's Vigna dell Impero, which was planted in 1935 – in Valdarno. The wine is matured in small oak barrels (partly used) for 14 months. The intense currant and spice attack is followed by a wave of fresh acidity and ripe cherry. It's well balanced, and the long finish offers some herbal and spice notes. Around 140,000 bottles produced.
The 2020 Crognolo is laced with crushed red berry fruit, mint, spice, licorice, dried flowers and sweet pipe tobacco. This mid-weight Tuscan red is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Pretty floral and spice notes reappear on the finish.
