Pinot Bianco rarely gets to show this kind of ambition. In Alto Adige's Terlano zone, the grape takes on weight and structure, and this Riserva from Terlano draws its fruit from the Vorberg vineyard, a steep site (inclines reaching 70%) climbing from roughly 450 to 650 meters with south and southwestern exposures. The 2022 vintage was warm and dry, and the wine spends time developing before release, a mid-weight white built for the long haul rather than easy sipping in its youth.
Freshly sliced yellow apple leads the way, Golden Delicious and melon lifted by lemon rind and a curious thread of white pepper. There is a creamy, silken weight to the palate, but it never turns heavy, held in tension by vibrant acidity and a mineral, almost saline edge that recalls crushed oyster shell. Notes of dried flowers, sweet herbs and a wisp of smoke fill in around the fruit, and the finish runs long and staining, with that peppery nuance returning at the end. Intense and deep, yet beautifully balanced, and still very much a young wine with room to grow

This 52-hectare site has incredibly steep (70%) inclines at 450 to 650 meters above sea level with south and southwestern exposures. The 2022 Alto Adige Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg (with 60,000 bottles produced) is a creamy, mid-weight expression from a warm and dry vintage. The wine offers pretty aromatic highlights of melon, Golden Delicious apple, pie crust and crushed oystershell. This is a beautiful and more accessible taste of the best of Alto Adige. The 2022 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is wildly fresh, with a cascade of dusty dried flowers, lemon oil, sweet herbs and white smoke. This is silken and elegant in feel with creamy weight suspended by vibrant acidity, as mineral-laced orchard fruits flow across the palate. It finishes long and staining, full of youthful tension, as the palate buzzes with a saline saturation and hints of sour citrus. The 2022 is just a baby today, but it has fantastic potential.
