Description

Alto Adige sits high in Italy's mountainous north, and its cool, alpine conditions give white wines a nervy precision you don't often find further south. This is Sauvignon Blanc from the Terlano DOC, bottled by Cantina Terlano under its Winkl designation, a 2024 that stays close to the grape's aromatic, herb-driven character while keeping everything lean and taut.

Expect a wine built on tension rather than weight. There's crunchy pear and green melon here, lime and grapefruit zest, and a distinct green streak of tarragon, mint and tomato leaf that marks the varietal. Underneath runs a smoky, gravelly minerality, and the palate carries silken citrus-inflected orchard fruit forward on bright, driving acidity. The finish is chiseled and long, dusted with white pepper and leaving a zesty, almost sour twang that pulls you back for the next sip.

A minerally style, with hints of smoke and gravel underscoring the crunchy pear, fresh tarragon, grapefruit zest and lentil notes. This is chiseled, with good drive and length, including a zesty feel on the white pepper–laced finish. Drink now through 2034. 24,160 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. (AN). With a slightly restyled front label, the Cantina Terlano 2024 Alto Adige Terlano Sauvignon Winkl is very true to the grape with lots of zesty tropical fruit, citrus and the green essence found on young tomato leaves. I enthusiastically direct your attention here if you love this fragrant grape. The wine is lean and fresh on the finish. (Wine Advocate, December 2025)

Vinous

The 2024 Sauvignon Winkl opens with a refined mix of minty herbs, green melon, lime zest and crushed stone. The palate is juicy in character with silken waves of citrus-inflected pit fruits and a cascade of spice, all supported by fresh acidity. It is long and full of youthful tension, leaving a sour twang that calls the taster back to the glass for more. (Vinous, December 2025)
