Grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in northeastern Sicily, this is a white wine in the island's high-altitude idiom, where cool air and mineral soils give whites a tension you rarely find further south. Terra Costantino's Contrada Blandano is an Etna Bianco DOC from the 2021 vintage, the kind of bottling that treats the mountain's volcanic character as the point rather than the backdrop.
The nose opens dusty and floral, with crushed almonds, ginger shavings, a struck-match smokiness, and dried apricot leading into white stone fruit and a touch of cedar. On the palate it is round and pliant, fleshed out with a hint of almond pastry or vanilla cream over peach and Golden Delicious apple, yet the texture stays lively thanks to salty mineral nuances and a zesty, phenolic grip. It finishes lightly structured and tense, saline and citrus-edged, the concentration lingering well.
Dusty and floral, the 2021 Etna Bianco Contrada Blandano wafts up with a bouquet of crushed almonds, ginger shavings and dried apricots. It is pliant and round with a savory mix of salty minerals and tart orchard fruits. This finishes lightly structured and tense with a saline character and a citrusy concentration that lingers nicely. (Vinous)
An ambitious and complex wine full of smoky minerality, with aromas of struck match, white stone fruit and cedar. Medium- to full-bodied, it displays tense and zesty acidity with a biting, phenolic finish, yet itâs well balanced. Drink or hold. (James Suckling, April 2025)
The Terra Costantino 2021 Etna Bianco Contrada Blandano shows a glossy mid-weight appearance with an extra layer of richness. It is immediate and fleshed out with a hint of sweetness that recalls almond pastry or vanilla cream on top of peach and Golden Delicious apple. The wine's soft texture caresses the palate, but mineral nuances and acidity keep it lively and bright. (Wine Advocate, June 2025)
