High on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in eastern Sicily, red wine takes on a lifted, high-toned character that sets it apart from anything else in Italy. This is a Riserva bottling from Terra Costantino, an Etna Rosso from the 2018 vintage built on the region's traditional dark grapes and given the extended aging the Riserva designation implies before release.
The nose opens with a cool, minty freshness, then rose petal, a wisp of white smoke, and dried strawberry, pretty rather than heavy. On the palate it stays pure and lifted, crisp minerality and bright acidity carrying juicy wild berry fruit across the tongue. It narrows toward the finish with a tart, cranberry-like concentration, kept in balance by mouthwatering tension and a frame of fine, gently coating tannins.

From vines in the district of Viagrande to the southeast of Etna, this white spends several months in botti grandi before a long ageing in bottle. Floral and flinty, it displays waxy and pineapple scents and rich tropical fruit flavours with a creamy background, however it's vertical and has a refreshing pithiness to it. (Decanter, May 2023)
