From a rocky parcel beside the Thomas Fogarty estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this single-vineyard Chardonnay draws on the property's oldest vines, planted in 1978. The 2016 vintage is medium to full bodied and unabashedly a California mountain white, built around the tension between ripeness and cut that defines the site.
Expect a lot going on in the glass: green orchard fruit, citrus pith, and a whiff of pastry cream lifting from the top. The palate is glossy and layered, concentrated through the middle, with vibrant acidity keeping everything taut and a stony, almost saline finish that lingers. There is richness here, but it never loses its freshness, and the balance suggests it will hold and even gain vibrancy with a little time in the cellar.

Lastly, the 2016 Chardonnay Damiana Vineyard comes from a rocky site located just beside the estate, and it’s one of the more exotic and complex wines in the lineup. Revealing lots of minerality as well as tart citrus and tropical fruit characteristics, it’s medium bodied, has vibrant acidity, good mid-palate depth, and terrific balance. This classic Chardonnay is going to benefit from a year in bottle and it should age gracefully giving it vibrancy. (Jeb Dunnuck, February 2019)
The 2016 Chardonnay Damiana Vineyard offers a super-intriguing combination of richness and freshness that makes it one of the most satisfying wines in the range. Powerful and layered on the palate, with striking aromatic lift, the Damiana is a wonderfully complete Chardonnay. The Damiana emerges from the oldest vines on the property. (Vinous)
The most generous and textural of these vineyard-designate Chardonnays—and also hailing from Fogarty's oldest vines, planted in 1978—the 2016 Chardonnay Damiana Vineyard offers up aromas of green orchard fruits, citrus pith and pastry cream. On the palate, it's full-bodied, glossy and succulent, with considerable concentration, a layered mid-palate and a stony, almost saline finish. Enjoy it for the coming decade.
