Cool-climate Pinot Noir from California, grown at the Mindego Ridge Vineyard and bottled under the Thomas Fogarty label. The 2017 vintage leans toward the restrained, structured end of the varietal's range rather than the plush, fruit-forward style, a wine built on tension and fine detail.
The color sits between pale and medium ruby, and the aromas take their time, gradually unfolding into red and black cherry, bay leaf, dried flowers, and a savory herbal note like a bouquet garni over damp earth. Chalk, mint, and a floral lift add brightness. On the palate it is medium-bodied and focused, tightly wound and a touch nervous in its youth, with a firm, fine-grained frame and juicy freshness that keeps pulling you back. It gains amplitude as it moves across the mouth and finishes long and spicy.

Pale to medium ruby in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir Mindego Ridge Vineyard very slowly blossoms to aromas of red and black cherries, bay leaf, loam, dried flowers and hints of bouquet garni. The palate is medium-bodied and intense, gaining in amplitude as it swirls in the mouth. It has a firm, fine-grained frame and addicting juicy freshness, finishing long and spicy. The 2017 Pinot Noir Mindego Ridge Vineyard is bright and nicely focused, but also tightly wound today. Chalk, mint and floral notes add striking brightness to this vibrant, somewhat nervous Pinot. It will be interesting to see if the 2017 gains more weight in bottle. Today, it is a bit compact, which is unusual given that most wines from this site so far have been more exuberant.
