Pinot Noir grown high in California's coastal hills tends toward the structured end of the grape's range, and this bottling from Thomas Fogarty leans into that. The 2018 comes from the Windy Hill Vineyard and reads as a serious, whole-cluster style of Pinot, one built more for structure than for early charm.
Powerful and wild, with a savory streak running through it. Whole-cluster stem character shows clearly, framing wild flowers, incense, and spice around a core of dark fruit. The tannins are firm and assertive right now, so this rewards patience. Give it a few years in the cellar to let the grip soften and the aromatics unfold.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Windy Hill Vineyard is powerful, wild and intensely savory. The stem character is especially evident. Wild flowers, incense and spice meld into a core of dark fruit. The style here is quite particular. I would give this a few years to soften, as the tannins are pretty imposing at the moment. (Vinous, May 2022)
