Montepulciano is Abruzzo's dark-fruited red grape, and here it comes from Tiberio in a single bottling called Colle Vota. This 2022 sits within the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo appellation, a style built on depth and structure rather than easy fruit, and it is very much made to reward some cellaring rather than rushing to the table young.
The nose leans earthy and darkly appealing, opening with crushed stone and a smoky whiff of grilled herbs before turning toward blackberry and ground clove. On the palate it manages weight and elegance at once, a cashmere-like texture carried by brisk acidity, with tart wild berry slowly filling in. The finish is still firm and youthful, edged with licorice and crunchy, structured tannins that ask for patience.

The 2022 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colle Vota is darkly alluring and pleasantly earthy. A beguiling bouquet of crushed ashen stones and smoky grilled herbs gives way to crushed blackberries and ground cloves. This is elegant in feel, like liquid cashmere on the palate, with brisk acidity supporting its notable weight as tart wild berry fruits slowly saturate. This finishes youthfully firm and structured, with nuances of licorice and edgy tannins that add a crunchy sensation. This vintage of Colle Vota will require patience. (Vinous, June 2026)
