Montepulciano is the red grape at the heart of Abruzzo, and here Tiberio bottles its 2022 in a cuvée called Archivio, a wine that leans into oak without letting it take over. This is Montepulciano d'Abruzzo in a more polished register than the grape's rustic reputation might suggest, built for those who want the varietal's dark fruit and structure but also refinement.
Expect a spice box on the nose: balsamic black cherry, ground clove, incense, rosemary, and a smoky, crushed-stone note underneath. The texture is silken and more vibrant than you might anticipate, with ripe red berry fruit that saturates toward the finish. Tannins are integrated and fine-grained, closing firm and poised while staying fresh, with a tart raspberry concentration that keeps the whole thing lifted. The oak is handled with a sure hand, present but folded in rather than sitting on top.

The 2022 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Archivio is a spice box of balsamic black cherries, ground clove, incense, rosemary and smoky crushed stone. It's more vibrant and refined than expected, with silken textures and ripe red berry fruits that saturate toward the close. This presents beautifully integrated tannins, finishing firm and poised but still fresh with a tart raspberry concentration. Tiberio has mastered the oak integration in the Archivio. This is a spectacular showing. (Vinous, June 2026)
