This is a 2021 estate bottling, a still white made in a style that prizes vibrancy and precision over weight, the kind of California Chardonnay built to feel taut rather than opulent.
There is real fruit density here, but it is carried by a bright, lifted core that keeps everything in motion. Look for lemon confit and white flowers, a hint of marzipan, and a frame of oak that sits quietly in the background, folded in rather than layered on top. It builds in the glass, gaining texture as it opens, finishing clean and energetic.

I couldn't have been more impressed with the 2021 Syrah Mae Estate, from stake-trained, massal selection vines planted in 2018. It was fermented almost entirely whole-cluster and aged for 22 months. A stunning nose brings to mind its influences even more than specific aromas: Jamet, Allemand, Clape and Gonon, from which readers can surely infer my feelings. A supple, enveloping, rich, savory palate leads to an absolutely explosive, intense, layered, complex, stern and sturdy finish. This should be cellared for the next few years at a minimum, but true-blue Syrah lovers, take note: this is one to seek out and be on the lookout for future iterations. (Wine Advocate, October 2024)
The 2021 Chardonnay Mae Estate Vineyard BR is a selection of the four best barrels in the cellar. It marries notable fruit density and texture with the sense of vibrancy that is such a signature here. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and a touch of new oak build nicely in the glass.
