Uccelliera's 2022 Rosso di Montalcino is a Sangiovese-based red from the Montalcino zone in Tuscany, made to drink in its youth with brightness and immediacy. The wine shows the ripeness of the vintage while maintaining the mineral spine and structure Sangiovese is known for.
On the nose, aromas of mint leaf and sage give way to crushed black cherries, clove, and white smoke. The palate opens with ripe red and blue fruits that move across a silken texture, underpinned by mineral notes that persist into a long finish. Sweet tannins linger through the final notes, and despite the vintage's warmth, the wine retains good freshness and acidity. This is an understated, well-balanced wine ready to enjoy now and over the next few years.

A ripe red color, the 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino is a potent little Rosso on the nose, with notes of wild cherries, anise, and pine needles. Medium-bodied, with good structure, it’s showing the warmth of the vintage, with modest acidity. but it retains good freshness in spite of that. It’s a very charming wine to enjoy over the next 2-3 years. Located in Castelnuova dell’Abate, Uccelliera’s first vintage was in 1991. Andrea Cortonesi purchased the farmland in 1986, and he continues to operate the estate today. His philosophy is simply to respect the terroir and to hold a strong commitment to the sense of place. He believes in a homeopathic approach to viticulture, to observe, listen, and work together with nature. The property includes vineyard holdings in three areas that range from 150 to 350 meters in elevation. They utilize large Slavonian 40-hectoliter barrels as well as 225-liter French barrique. The Uccelliera 2022 Rosso di Montalcino shows a dark ruby color with tart cherry highlights. You get bitter almond and, generally speaking, the wine excels at delivering bright primary intensity. It would pair perfectly with a pizza such as a simple Margherita with buffalo mozzarella. There is mild tannic intensity, and the wine is nicely put together. Production is 25,866 bottles plus larger formats.
