Vincent Girardin's Volnay Les Vieilles Vignes is a Pinot Noir from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, made from old vines in the 2016 vintage. The wine shows the region's characteristic elegance paired with genuine depth.
Dark fruit dominates the nose, black cherries and blackberries cut through with smoked earth and underbrush. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe tannins that grip without overwhelming. You'll find loads of dark fruit, earth, and toasty spice layered through the middle, all held together by a structure that feels both refined and powerful. The finish is long and lingers with fruit and mineral character. This is a wine that balances richness with purity, offering immediate pleasure but built to age well.

The 2016 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is another impressive 2016 barrel sample. Notes of black cherries, blackberries, smoked earth, underbrush, and earth all give way to a medium- to full-bodied, concentrated, structured wine that has ripe, present tannins, loads of fruit and depth, and a big finish. This is a rich, concentrated 2016 that has beautiful purity and finesse, as well as power. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Rich and vibrant, with rose, black cherry and black currant flavors gaining support from earth, toasty oak and sweet spice notes. Dense tannins come into play as this extends on the long finish. Best from 2021 through 2033. 700 cases made, 500 cases imported. (Wine Spectator)
