Gran Reserva sits at the patient end of Rioja's classification, and this bottling from Viñedos de Páganos is Tempranillo grown for the long haul. The 2015 spent its required years in oak and bottle before release, yet it arrives still coiled, more youthful than the Gran Reserva label might suggest. Dry, structured, built to reward cellaring.
Red fruit and fresh plum lead, edged with balsamic, fine oak, thyme, and a wisp of camphor. On the palate it turns expansive and juicy, broad through the middle, with polished tannins that lend just enough grip to keep things lively. Menthol threads between the ripe fruit, and the first savory notes of age are beginning to surface beneath it all. This one is still primary, and a few more years in the cellar will only help.

Still youthful in expression, the 2015 Gran Reserva El Puntido opens with red fruit and fresh plum alongside balsamic hints, fine oak and touches of thyme and gentle camphor. Dry and expansive on the palate, it shows soft, polished tannins that add subtle grip and energy between ripe fruit and menthol tones. Broad and juicy through the mid-palate, aging nuances emerge beneath the fruit. The wine remains primary and will benefit from additional bottle time. (Vinous, April 2026)
