White Rioja gets less attention than its red counterpart, which makes a bottling like this one worth pausing on. Made by Viñedos Sierra Cantabria from fruit grown around San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta, the 2023 Organza leans on Viura for its backbone, with Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca filling in the middle. The varieties are fermented separately, given a long maceration, then fermented in new French oak and aged on the lees for eleven months, a regimen that builds texture without smothering the fruit.
Golden in the glass and medium-bodied, it opens on green apple, peach, and white flowers, with violet and chamomile threading through. Oak gives it a creamy feel on the palate, but the wine stays taut, with a gravelly, mineral undertow and freshness that holds even in a ripe year. A faint note of petrol adds nuance, and the finish carries a touch of the tropical. Expressive now, with the structure to reward a decade or more in the cellar.

The 2023 Organza blends 45% Viura, 30% Malvasia, and 25% Garnacha Blanca from many sites in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Since 2021, the varieties have been fermented separately and given a long maceration before fermenting in new French oak barrels, aged on the lees for 11 months. A gravelly texture underlies a white Rioja of tremendous purity and minerality, marked by its enduring freshness even in this, a ripe vintage. Medium-bodied, it’s lovely in delicate green apple, white flower, and violet. Age 10-15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck, July 2025)
The golden-colored white 2023 Organza is expressive and fruit-forward, with notes of peaches, dried yellow flowers and chamomile. It's a textured vintage, with depth and less exuberance, with very good freshness, and in the long run, it should be a winner. There's more nuance in 2023 than in 2022. It was produced with a blend of 40% Viura, 35% Malvasía Riojana and 25% Garnacha Blanca, with 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.17. A very Riojan white. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2024. (Wine Advocate, February 2025)
The 2023 Organza, fermented and aged in new French oak, combines Viura, Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca. Golden in hue with notes of baked apple, white flowers, herbs and a touch of petrol, it's creamy on the tongue with delicate freshness and a tropical note at the end. The 2023 is rich and expressive.
