A rosé built from an unusually broad palette of grapes, this XF from Viñedos Sierra Cantabria in Rioja folds together Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Maturana with white varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Viura, and Tempranillo Blanco. It comes from a collaboration with Xandra Falco, Marquesa de Mirabel, and from a vineyard planted specifically with this wine in mind. The method is what gives it character: the white grapes are cold-macerated, then macerated together with the reds, so the color and texture come from skin contact rather than a simple pressing. The 2024 leans a touch more textured than usual while holding onto sharp acidity.
Expect a wine driven by citrus and freshness, tart and lifted, with squeezed lime and fresh peach carrying the fruit. There is a pretty floral thread running through it, along with a gentle sweet-and-sour cherry note and a hint of dried flowers on the nose. The palate is full and precise, clean and long, finishing
Tremendously delicious, the 2024 Rosado XF is a tart, citrus-driven knock-out of a wine bursting in acidity. A collaboration with Xandra Falco, Marquesa de Mirabel, it blends Garnacha, Sauvignon Blanc, Viura, Maturana, Tempranillo, and Tempranillo Blanco from an estate vineyard specifically planted for this wine. The whites are cold-macerated then macerated with the reds. Evocative in Mediterranean style, it’s long and breezy, with a pretty floral component, tasting of fresh peach and squeezed lime. Drink now and over the next several years. (Jeb Dunnuck, July 2025)
The complex blend of the 2024 XF—Garnacha (30%), Sauvignon Blanc (30%), Viura (20%), Tempranillo Blanco (10%), Maturana (5%) and Tempranillo (5%)—gives it a complex nose, subtle, a little more unctuous than other vintages, but it also has higher acidity. It has clout, a common theme in the white and rosés from 2024. It is elegant and subtle but with great freshness and precise and clean. 25,000 bottles produced. (Wine Advocate, February 2025)
The 2024 Rosado XF Sierra Cantabria is a blend of Garnacha, Sauvignon Blanc, Viura, Tempranillo Blanco, Maturana and Tempranillo, all fermented with white grape skins. Gentle sweet and sour cherry aromas mingle with dried flowers in the restrained but crisp nose. Full and textured, with fresh flavor, malic acidity and a long, fruit-driven finish, this is a characterful Rosé. (Vinous)
