Sonoma Mountain sits high above the fog line, and the Pinot Noir grown there from the Van der Kamp Vineyard tends toward structure and lift rather than plush fruit. This is Vivier's 2022 bottling, a single-vineyard expression made in a tiny run of just 50 cases, medium-bodied and built for detail over weight.
The nose leans dark and aromatic, blackberry and dried cherry wound through violet, juniper, and a curl of woodsmoke. On the palate it is gently astringent and genuinely mouthwatering, the flavors clear and lit by a citrus edge that keeps everything bright. The finish stretches out long and composed, more elegant than showy.
