Single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Victoria, this comes off the Bull Swamp site, a warmer parcel whose extra ripeness pushes the fruit toward the darker end of the spectrum. William Downie bottles it on its own, so what you get is a portrait of one place rather than a blend, and the 2023 leans into the plush, perfumed style Pinot can reach when the growing conditions run a little warmer.
Expect darker fruit here, raspberry edging toward something deeper, lifted by violet and a thread of liquorice. There's a gentle earthiness underneath, savoury spice through the middle, and tannins so fine they read as almost cashmere-soft. It finishes poised and of a piece, nothing sticking out, everything in conversation.
