Williams Selyem's 2022 Chardonnay from the Heintz Vineyard sits on the southern edge of Green Valley in Russian River Valley, at elevation where fog influence keeps nights cool despite warm days. The wine was barrel fermented and aged 13 months in mostly neutral oak, with just 27% new wood.
The wine opens with honeyed citrus, fresh pineapple, and golden apple, accented by subtle baking spice and vanilla notes. A bright spine of acidity drives through the palate, which feels full-bodied yet balanced, with subtle toasted and smoky undertones adding complexity. The chalky, mineral finish is clean and lingers, with enough structure to reward cellaring but enough openness to enjoy now.

A youthful bright medium yellow hue, the 2022 Chardonnay Heintz Vineyard is my favorite of these white wines from Williams Selyem. It comes from the southern edge of the Green Valley at 700-800 feet elevation, where the vineyard just reaches the fog line and is warm during the day and cool at night. In the glass, the wine opens to notes of fresh pineapple, honeyed citrus, golden apples, delicate baking spice, and vanilla. It drives through the palate with a bright spine of acidity and a full-bodied feel, as well as a clean, chalky finish. Drink 2026-2038. These are the spring releases from Williams-Selyem and were tasted with Vice President and Director of Winemaking Jeff Mangahas at the estate in the Russian River Valley. (Jeb Dunnuck, June 2024)
The 2022 Chardonnay Heintz Vineyard was barrel fermented and matured for 13 months in 27% new oak. It opens with integrated matchstick tones that complement aromas of yellow apple, apricot, candle smoke and beeswax. The medium-bodied palate features ripe, gently exotic flavors driven by a pleasurably grippy texture. It’s balanced by vibrant acidity and has a long, flavorful finish. 212 cases were made.
